Oyster season has arrived! They are a culinary delicacy and are packed with rich sources of protein. They are also filled with nutrients like calcium, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, vitamins A, E , B12 and zinc which may help to prevent against anemia, arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and depression.
They can also help you to lose weight. They are low in calories and high in protein which makes you feel fuller for longer after eating them.
Oysters can contain harmful bacteria so make sure you get them from a reputable source and eat them the same day.
They come in so may sizes and the varieties are endless. Some of my favorites are: Malpeque, Long Point, Blue Point, Raspberry Point and Lucky Lime.
How do I like to eat them? I like to eat them with lemon juice or shrimp cocktail sauce. This weekend I’m going to try and to come up with a mustard sauce for them. So it’s back to the test kitchen to get creative and come up with something special that I can share with my family and friends.
Keep fit and enjoy life!
